Lib Tech DynaSword Review: The Young Dynamo, C3

Lib Tech DynaSword is the young, small Dynamo: a directional C3 board in sizes 130, 135 and 140 for youth who want a real high-level machine, not a kids' imitation of one. A relaxed entry nose, a mild taper, a 1" setback and Magne-Traction carry the Dynamo's philosophy into smaller sizes. Here is everything we know about it, from the shop and from Lib Tech.

Snowboard Science ep. 4: C3 Hybrid Camber - the aggressive camber profile for speed and control
The DynaSword is a real Dynamo in a smaller size, not a kids' board
Most kids' boards are made to be easy and cheap: a soft flex, all rocker, simple construction. That is right for a child's first days on snow. But a moment comes when the young snowboarder already rides confidently, wants speed and starts looking at what the bigger riders are on. The DynaSword is made for exactly that moment.
It is made for a youth who does not want to fall behind his parents on the piste, wants to ride fast and wants to know he is standing on a real, specialized board. Lib Tech says it in almost the same words: with the DynaSword you will beat your parents to the bottom all year long, as Bjorn Fredriksson does, the young rider the brand associates with the model.
Lib Tech describes the DynaSword as "the dream camber freeride board, directional, for all terrain, for the smaller rider, with unlimited freestyle possibilities." It is not a package: it is sold without bindings, like any serious board.
C3: camber for speed and pop, a mild rocker between the feet for forgiveness
Directional C3: camber under the feet and toward the nose and tail, with a mild rocker between the feet.
The profile is the same as the Dynamo's: directional C3. The camber under the feet and toward the nose and tail gives pop, stability at speed and secure landings. The mild rocker between the feet forgives when the edge catches at the wrong moment, something a young rider who is only starting to push hard will appreciate.
Lib Tech writes that C3 with Magne-Traction guarantees precise carving on hardpack and "pop and stable landings" on big jumps and landings. Magne-Traction, the wavy edge, holds on an icy morning piste, where a light board and a light kid lose the edge most easily.
Snowboard Science ep. 5: Magne-Traction - the secret power behind Lib Tech's edges

Directional shape: the nose floats in deep snow, the tail is slightly narrower
The relaxed entry nose and the mild taper do the same thing as on the Dynamo: the nose enters the turn calmly and floats in deep and chopped-up snow, while the tail is a little narrower. On the 130 the nose is 26.4 cm and the tail 26.2 cm. The stance is set back 1". The difference between nose and tail is small, so the DynaSword stays manageable and feels almost symmetrical rather than being a heavy freeride tool.
Inside is OP construction: a 75/25 aspen and paulownia wood core with plenty of pop and durability, and a fast Eco Sublimated TNT base that needs almost no maintenance. The flex is 5.5 on the 130 and 6 on the 135 and 140, stiffer than an ordinary kids' board because it is built for speed.
For a youth who already rides confidently, not for the first days on snow
The DynaSword is for a child or teenager who already rides confidently all over the piste, turns on edge and wants more. For such a rider the board gives fast carving, stability at speed, flotation (in fluffy snow) off-piste and pop for jumps. Lib Tech's scale places it for intermediate-advanced to advanced riders.
Who it is not for: a child who is just stepping onto snow. The camber and the stiffer flex demand technique, and for the first seasons a rocker board is more suitable. It is also not a board for park and riding switch, because it is directional.

Size: 130 from 25 kg, 140 from 30 kg, and then the Dynamo
The DynaSword size is chosen by the child's weight, not age. The 130 is from about 25 kg, and the 135 and 140 from 30 kg. We have the 130 and 140 from 2023/24 and the 140 from 2024/25. The geometry and construction are identical, and only the graphics differ. When the child outgrows the 140, the next step is the Dynamo 153. Enter weight and boot size and we will show you which of the available sizes fits.

DynaSword vs. its relatives: Dynamo, Dynamiss and Skate Banana
Lib Tech Dynamo is the big brother: the same directional C3, 1" setback and Magne-Traction, from 153 up. When the DynaSword gets too small, the Dynamo is the natural next step. Lib Tech Dynamiss is the Lady Dynamo: for a light teenage girl who has outgrown the 140, the 142 and 145 sizes are the next step with the same profile. Lib Tech Skate Banana is the other path: Original Banana, a true twin, easy and playful, for a youth who wants park and riding switch more than speed.

Frequently asked questions
What age is the DynaSword for?
The size is chosen by weight, not age: the 130 is from about 25 kg and the 140 from 30 kg. Level matters more: the board is for a child who already rides confidently.
Does the DynaSword come with bindings?
No. It is a youth board, not a package. Bindings are chosen separately, to fit the child's boots. We will pick them together in the shop.
What is the difference between the DynaSword and the Dynamo?
The same profile and shape: directional C3, 1" setback, Magne-Traction. The DynaSword comes in sizes 130-140, with a flex for lower weight.
Is it suitable for a child who is just starting?
It is not our first choice. The camber and the stiffer flex demand technique. For the first seasons a rocker board is better.
Which year should I choose, 2024 or 2025?
The geometry, profile and construction are identical. The difference is the graphics: the blue forest of 2023/24 or the red-orange landscape of 2024/25.
How to choose, and where to try it
If your child already rides fast, turns on edge and wants a board to keep up with you, the DynaSword is the choice. If they have outgrown the 140, get the Dynamo or, for a light teenage girl, the Dynamiss. If they are drawn more to the park, get the Skate Banana. Come to our shop at 6A Golo Bardo St. in Sofia with your child or call us at +359 887 800 575 and we will choose the size by weight and pick bindings to fit the boots. We have been riding this stuff since 1997.
