Lib Tech Cortado Review: The Women's Cold Brew for Deep Snow

Lib Tech Cortado Review: The Women's Cold Brew for Deep SnowLib Tech Cortado - review by TrueRiders

The Lib Tech Cortado is the women's Cold Brew - a directional board with C2, a longer nose, a setback (stance shifted toward the tail) of 1.5" and a less pronounced Magne-Traction, for women who want to ride deep snow all day without tiring the back leg. Doychin calls it one of the most suitable boards for advanced women. Here is everything we know about it - from Doychin's video, from the shop and from Lib Tech.

The Cortado is a Cold Brew for women - half freestyle, half freeride

The name is chosen very precisely. In a cafe, a cortado is espresso and milk one to one, and Lib Tech gives that name to a board that sits right in the middle between freestyle and freeride. The brand describes it as a balanced all-mountain (the whole mountain terrain) board with a soft-entry nose for float (in powder) and a tighter tail rise for control in any snow.

Doychin starts his video there: the Cortado is the women's version of the legendary Cold Brew. Lib Tech makes it for women who prefer deep snow and who, like us, watch the forecasts all week and wait for "that white pleasure" to fall. For the men's model in detail, see our Lib Tech Cold Brew review.

For the 2025/26 season the artwork is photographic, by Tim Zimmerman: a dark top sheet with pink-blue light and a white base with the big handwritten Lib logo. The specification - profile, setback, sizes - is the same from 2023/24 to 2025/26, so Doychin's 23/24 video applies fully to the boards we have now.

Directional C2: rocker between the feet for the turn, camber toward the ends for control

Directional C2: rocker between the feet and camber zones toward the nose and tail, with a longer nose and setback of 1.5".

Lib Tech calls the profile directional hybrid C2, and Mervin describes it as "the perfect profile for any terrain". There is rocker between the feet - it makes the turn easy and forgives when the edge catches at the wrong moment. Toward the nose and tail there are camber zones that bring back spring, stability and grip in carving. Doychin explains it as the legendary C2 shape - a balanced combination of camber, rocker, camber.

It is precisely because of the camber zones that the Cortado is not only a deep snow board. On a groomed piste the nose and tail hold enough to ride with confidence even when the snow is hard. According to Doychin, this is a board you can ride on the piste "without worrying" - there is control in both the nose and the tail.

Snowboard Science Ep. 3 - C2 Hybrid Profile, TrueRidersSnowboard Science Ep. 3: C2 Hybrid Profile - camber, rocker, camber, explained simply

In deep snow the nose floats by itself, and the back leg gets to rest

The stance (the distance between the bindings) on the Cortado is set back 1.5" (3.8 cm) in all sizes, and the nose is longer than the tail. Doychin explains the logic in the video: a board with this setback assumes the rider stands with priority on the back foot. The nose comes up by itself, you do not need to lean back with your whole body, and after a full day in deep snow the back thigh is not burning.

The price of this shape is riding switch (riding with the other foot forward). The Cortado will get through a short transfer - a spin, a switch landing, a few meters in the opposite direction. But Doychin is clear: if you want to ride both directions, do not count on riding a whole run in the reverse direction. For that there are true twin (identical nose and tail - rides the same in both directions) boards.

The Cortado is not a first board. It is for a rider who already rides with confidence, knows her lead foot and is looking for more - the trees after a snowfall, off-piste riding next to the piste, long days in powder. The hard morning piste and the deep afternoon snow are ridden on the same board.

The milder Magne-Traction and slight edge detuning make turn entry soft

This is the part Doychin stresses as "very important". The Cortado has Magne-Traction - Lib Tech's wavy edge - but, as with the Cold Brew, the relief is shallower. Control on hardpack and ice remains. You gain something else: when you come out of deep snow onto a packed section or cross a hard track between two meadows, the edge does not grab sharply and the board does not surprise you. In deep snow itself, the milder relief is not felt as a lack at all.

If you buy the Cortado from us, we will most likely offer you one more step before we mount the bindings: slight detuning of the edges at the nose and tail. The start of the edge - the part that enters the turn first - is dulled just a little in the workshop we use for board maintenance. You feel it in the very first turn: the board enters more gently, without the sharp bite of a new sharp edge. Doychin describes it as an extremely friendly board.

Sizing: by weight, the longer for deep snow, the shorter for trees

Lib Tech rates the 145 from about 35 kg, the 148 and 151 from 40 kg and the 154 from 45 kg. The waist is between 24.9 and 25.2 cm - for a standard women's boot. The flex (how soft or stiff the board is) is 5 on the 145 and 6 from the 148 up. If you ride mostly deep snow and at speed, take the longer size for your weight; for trees and shorter turns, the shorter one. Enter your weight and boot size and we will show you which of the available sizes.

The Cortado vs its relatives: Cold Brew, Dynamiss and Glider

Lib Tech Cold Brew is the men's original - the same directional C2, the same setback and the milder Magne-Traction, but with a wider platform and sizes up to 163W. Lib Tech Dynamiss is Lib Tech's other women's directional board - C3 instead of C2, more camber, more speed and carving on hardpack, less float. Lib Tech Glider is the women's Skate Banana - Original Banana and a true twin, a softer flex, for a rider who is just starting out or wants park and switch riding.

The table compares the Cortado with the three closest boards in our shop: profile, setback, flex, who it is for and where it rides.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Cortado and the Cold Brew?

The profile, setback and idea are the same. The Cortado has a narrower waist, a softer flex and sizes from 145 to 154 - for the lighter weight and smaller feet of women.

Is the Cortado good on the piste?

Yes. The camber zones at the nose and tail give enough control on hardpack, and Magne-Traction holds on ice. Its strength, however, is in deep snow.

Can I ride switch on the Cortado?

For a short transfer - yes. For a whole run in the reverse direction - no: the setback and the longer nose make it a one-direction board. For switch riding and park, look for a true twin.

What is edge detuning and is it necessary?

Slight dulling of the edge right at the start of the nose and tail. The board enters the turn more softly and does not grab sharply. It is not mandatory, but we recommend it before mounting.

Is it suitable for beginners?

It is not our first choice. The Cortado is for a rider who already rides with confidence. For a first board we recommend Original Banana, for example the Glider.

How to choose and where to try it

If you are a woman who rides with confidence and waits for snowfalls to be first in the trees - the Cortado is the board. If you want more camber and speed on hardpack - the Dynamiss. If you are just starting out - the Glider. Come to our shop at Golo Bardo 6A in Sofia or call us at +359 887 800 575 - we will show you the board in person, pick the size and detune the edge before mounting. We have been riding this stuff since 1997.
