Bike, Surf, Snowboard and Ski Shop!
A favorite snowboard of the TrueRiders Shop team and one of the models that changed how the industry thinks about board shape. The Skate Banana introduced Banana technology and Magne-Traction and showed that a board can be extremely easy, a lot of fun and technical enough for advanced snowboarders at the same time.
In our view the name Skate Banana is no accident. The handling is much like a skateboard: shifting your weight from toes to heels starts the turn almost immediately and does not need complicated movements. It is one of the fastest-turning boards we have ridden, and that is exactly why it is great for the park, for small quick turns and for people who want the mountain to feel like a skatepark.
The Original Banana profile has rocker between the feet and very small, barely noticeable camber zones toward the nose and tail. This keeps the board close to the original Skate Banana idea - easy, free and forgiving, without losing the control you need.
In deep snow the rocker makes the nose float naturally. You do not need to stay far back all the time, and the risk of nose dive is much lower. On hard snow Magne-Traction brings back the grip, and in the park the board stays playful and very lively.
This is a board an absolute beginner can start on in the morning and feel real progress the same day, but also a board an advanced rider can keep for a long time. For us the Skate Banana is almost a mandatory first arrow in a quiver of snowboards.
Technical highlights: Original Banana / BTX; true twin character; Magne-Traction; rocker between the feet; barely noticeable camber zones; all-mountain / freestyle / deep snow; easy handling; strong skateboard feel.
Review on the blog: Lib Tech Skate Banana review: who it is for and how it rides
| Size | Contact length | Waist | Sidecut radius | Stance (min-max / setback) | Flex (1–10) | Rider weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 154 cm | 115 cm | 25.3 cm | 8.2 m | 51.5-63.5 / 0 cm | 5 | from 30 kg |
Size is not chosen by length alone. Weight, surface area, waist width, profile and the length of edge that actually works - the effective edge - together determine how a board rides. The table shows the lower weight limit that Mervin gives for each size. A shorter board turns faster and is more playful, a longer one gives more stability and float. The waist should match your boot: at around 24-25 cm, boots are usually up to size 42-43, at 25-26 cm up to size 44-45, and the W versions are for a bigger foot, so that toes and heel do not catch the snow when carving.
Not sure which size? Write to us or stop by our shop at Golo Bardo - we have been riding this gear since 1997.
