How to choose a snowboard
A board is chosen by three things: how much you weigh, how you ride and what size boots you wear. Your height is only a first guide.
What length do I need?
Stood up next to you, the board reaches somewhere between your chin and your nose. Weight is more precise: every board's description has a size table with a "Rider weight" column – pick the size whose range you fall into. A shorter board turns more easily and suits the park and beginners. A longer one is more stable at speed and floats better in powder.
Wide or regular?
With boots from EU 44.5 up, your toes and heel start to hang over the edge and drag in the snow when you turn. Then take the wide version – the size with a W.
Camber, rocker or hybrid?
- Camber – the board arches up in the middle. It holds the edge on hard-packed snow and pops well, but it does not forgive mistakes.
- Rocker – it curves down. It turns easily and forgives mistakes, so it is good for the first seasons and for powder.
- Hybrid – rocker between the feet and camber under them (or the other way round). The most common choice if you ride a bit of everything. C2 from Lib Tech and GNU is one.
Soft or stiff?
Flex on a 1 to 10 scale: up to 4 is soft – for beginners and the park; 5–6 is medium – for all-mountain riding; 7 and up is stiff – for speed and freeride. A true twin (same nose and tail) rides the same both ways and suits the park. A directional board, often with a setback stance, is for powder and freeride.
The board needs bindings and boots that match it in size and stiffness. If you are not sure, come to the shop – we will help you with the size.
