Temple and Cannon’s Banked Country split is a magical metamorphasis...their refined resort carving pow slaying machine has transformed into a lightweight climbing. powder and adrenalin access tool. A radically refined directional geometry/shape that includes a floaty nose. mild taper. Banked Slalom winning side cut and their unique progressive “teeth in the tail” Magne-Traction® for quiet turn entry and unbelievable hook up in the tail to finish. A lightweight Paulownia core make this an effortless climber and floaty smooth rider. Karakoram Ultra Clips lock it all together makes this for great board feel and speedy smooth transitions. Highly refined. heavily tested by the boys and you know this is the right stick when you are in Banked Country.
The GNU Banked Country Split is the splitboard version of the Banked Country, the board of Temple Cummins and his son Cannon, built with one eye on deep snow and the other on the Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt. Baker. It has the same directional C3 geometry, cut in two halves so you can skin up where the lift does not reach.
The C3 profile is camber dominant, with a slight rocker between the feet. The camber holds the edge on hard snow and gives stability at speed, and the rocker keeps the turn easy and intuitive. The big nose floats in deep snow, the light Tapered shape (the nose is wider than the tail) lets the tail sink, and the progressive Magne-Traction is gathered toward the tail, so turn entry is quiet and the end of the turn bites firmly.
You climb with skins and splitboard bindings. The light Paulownia wood core does not weigh on a long ascent, and the Karakoram Ultra Clips lock the two halves so it feels like a single board on the way down. Steep chutes, trees, snow pillows: that is where it belongs.
This is a board for an experienced rider who already knows why they want to leave the lifts behind. Doychin himself spends most of his days in the mountains on a splitboard, and rides the Banked Country on the lift. For us this is one of the most sensible splitboard options in Mervin's range.
Key specs: Temple Cummins / Cannon Cummins; directional splitboard; C3; 1.5" setback (the stance is shifted toward the tail); light Tapered shape; progressive Magne-Traction; Paulownia wood core; Carbon Power Bands; Karakoram Ultra Clips; flex about 6.5-7; deep snow / freeride / splitboard touring.
The version we have is the 2022/23 generation, with artwork by Cannon Cummins. The geometry is the same as the newer generations: 159 cm, 114 cm contact length, 25.4 cm waist width, 1.5" setback.
On the blog: How to choose a snowboard: profile, flex, length and width
| Size | Contact length | Waist width | Sidecut | Stance (min-max / setback) | Flex (1-10) | Rider weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 159 cm | 114 cm | 25.4 cm | 8.3 m | 50.8-63.5 / 3.8 cm | 7 | from 60 kg |
Choose a splitboard like a regular board for the same terrain: by weight (the table shows the lower limit given by Mervin), with a bit more length or surface for float in deep snow with a pack. The waist width should match your boot; touring boots are usually bulkier.
