A rash guard is a thin top made of quick-drying fabric. It protects you from the sun in the water, where sunscreen washes off, and from chafing by the board and the wetsuit.
UPF shows how much ultraviolet light the fabric stops. With UPF 50+ less than 2% reaches your skin. It protects where it covers – your face and hands still need sunscreen.
Long sleeves protect your shoulders and arms – that is where you burn first when you paddle for hours. Short sleeves are for shorter time in the sun and for wearing under a wetsuit.
A tight one does not balloon and does not get in the way when paddling, and it also fits under a wetsuit. A loose one is more comfortable on the beach and for swimming, but it rides up in the water.
Our rash guards are from O'Neill – men's, women's and kids'. Rinse them in fresh water and dry them in the shade so they do not fade.
