Lib Tech Double Dip Review: A Twin for Deep Snow in Both Directions

The Lib Tech Double Dip is a true twin (identical nose and tail, rides the same in both directions) that works as a deep snow board in both directions: C2X, two identical spoon ends and Magne-Traction. We carry the 159 from the 2024/25 generation. Who it is for: a freestyle rider of 65 kg and up who rides the park and groomed terrain but does not want to give up 180s, 360s and riding switch (riding with the other foot forward) in deep snow.

Snowboard Science ep. 3: C2 hybrid profile - the family C2X comes from
The Double Dip is Pete Saari's freestyle idea: "directional in both directions"
The Double Dip is one of Mervin's most interesting freestyle designs: a true twin that rides just as naturally in both directions even in deep snow. Behind it is Pete Saari, who together with Mike Olson stands at the beginning of Mervin, GNU and Lib Tech. Lib Tech calls the board Pete's "freestyle groomer board with skate thinking": a board for progressing in freestyle and for having a good time in any direction and in any snow.
Pete Saari calls the idea "directional in both directions", and that describes exactly a twin board with two real deep snow ends. The model has been in Lib Tech's range since at least 2018/19, and for 2024/25 the nose and tail are completely new, with a spoon shape at both ends.
The profile is C2X, not C3: more camber and pop, but rocker for float
C2X: extended camber zones under the feet and a shortened rocker between them - the more aggressive version of the hybrid C2.
An important clarification: the profile is C2X, not C3. That means more camber and pop than a classic C2, while the rocker between the feet stays for float (in powder) and a playful feel. Lib Tech's technical panel describes it precisely: "extended camber, shortened rocker, extended camber", a rocker and camber hybrid that rides everything, including deep snow.
The construction is OPP+: a wood core of 75% aspen and 25% paulownia with a little cedar, triaxial fiberglass with Magnesium Techno Fiber Bands and carbon, and a Knife Cut sintered base (faster, holds wax). It is light and strong, and the magnesium and carbon bring the spring back on every ollie (pop off the tail). The flex (how soft or stiff the board is) is 7: not a soft board for rails, boxes and other park features.

The two spoon ends make riding switch in deep snow feel natural
The nose and tail zones are large and gently raised, so the end in front always works as a deep snow nose, whichever one it is. That is why in deep snow you can do 180s, 360s, ride switch, transfer between features and do big freestyle moves. On an ordinary twin, landing switch in soft snow often buries the tail. On the Double Dip the "tail" is just another nose.
Lib Tech describes a day on the Double Dip like this: carving the turns, jumping off every wall and groomer track, flowing through the park, and surfing the deep snow if it falls. The contact length is slightly shortened, which makes the board more playful and easier for creative freestyle. The waist is 26.8 cm, with the idea of "no boot drag": the boot does not drag in a carve.
Snowboard Science ep. 5: Magne-Traction - the edge that bites into ice

For a freestyle rider who wants the park on Monday and deep snow on Tuesday
The Double Dip is for a rider who already feels comfortable in both directions and rides the park, natural jumps beside the piste and freestyle on groomed terrain. C2X and a flex of 7 call for a confident edge, so it is not a beginner's first board. Nor is it a pure deep snow board with a 4" setback (stance moved toward the tail): in very deep snow, on a straight line, a directional board will float more easily. The strength of the Double Dip is elsewhere: the freedom to spin, land switch and play in soft snow without thinking about which end is in front.
The 2024/25 graphic is by James Johnson: Indigenous-style art in black, red and turquoise, which looks great on a wall if you ever decide to retire the board.
Size: 159, and rather longer than your usual
At our shop the Double Dip comes in 159, for riders of 65 kg and up according to Lib Tech. Unlike most deep snow boards, here the brand advises going 2-4 cm longer than your usual size, because the contact length is shortened. The 26.8 cm waist also takes a bigger boot. Enter your weight and boot size to see whether the 159 is your size.

Double Dip vs T.Rice Pro, Head Space and Skate Banana
Lib Tech T.Rice Pro is a twin with C2 and a very long effective edge (the part of the edge that cuts the snow): a board for everything, from the park to the big mountain, but with classic twin ends. GNU Head Space is Forest Bailey's freestyle model: a twin with C3, softer, for presses, nose or tail balance presses and rails. Lib Tech Skate Banana is the easy twin with Original Banana that also floats in deep snow, but with a much looser character.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Double Dip C2X or C3?
C2X. More camber and pop than a classic C2, but with rocker between the feet for float. C3 is a different profile, with predominant camber.
What does "directional in both directions" mean?
That is how Pete Saari describes the idea: a twin on which both the nose and the tail are real deep snow ends. Whichever end is in front works as the nose.
Is the Double Dip good for deep snow?
Yes, especially for freestyle in soft snow: switch, 180s and 360s. For long lines in very deep snow, a directional board with a big setback floats more easily.
Why should I go longer?
The contact length is slightly shortened, so Lib Tech advises 2-4 cm longer than your usual board.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Not as a first board. C2X and a flex of 7 call for a confident edge. For the first seasons, take the Skate Banana.
How to choose and where to see it
If you want one twin board for the whole mountain, take the T.Rice Pro. If you live in the park and on rails, the Head Space. If you are just starting, the Skate Banana. And if you are a freestyle rider who wants to play in deep snow too, in both directions, the Double Dip. Come to our shop at Golo Bardo 6A in Sofia or call us at +359 887 800 575 and we will show you the board in person and check your weight and boot size. We have been riding this stuff since 1997.
