How to choose snowboard bindings
Bindings connect your boot to the board. If they do not fit one of the two, even the best board rides badly.
What size?
The size (S, M, L) is chosen by your boot size – the table is in every model's description. The boot should sit snugly without being squeezed at the sides, with the heel right at the back. If you are between two sizes, try them with your own boots in the shop.
Will they fit my board?
Almost all boards have screw inserts in a 4x4 or 2x4 pattern, and bindings for a regular board fit them. Burton boards with the Channel (a slot along the board instead of inserts) need bindings that fit it too – Burton Re:Flex and most new models do, check this in the description. Splitboard bindings (for a board that splits into two skis) are a separate system. Burton Step On is a separate system: you step in without straps, but only with Step On boots.
Soft or stiff bindings?
Binding stiffness follows the stiffness of the board and the boots. A soft binding forgives mistakes and is comfortable for the park and for beginners. A stiff one passes your movement on faster and holds better at speed and on hard snow. A soft binding on a stiff board loses control; a stiff one on a soft board makes the ride twitchy.
What else to look at?
- The highback – the taller and stiffer it is, the faster the board starts a heel-side turn.
- The straps – they should hold the boot without crushing it. Most models adjust without tools.
- Stance angles – to start with, usually +15° front and 0° to −6° back; for the park, mirrored, for example +15° and −15°.
We carry bindings from Bent Metal, Drake, GNU and Burton. See also the boots and boards that go with them.
