BTX / hybrid Banana with Magne-Traction: easy, forgiving and with no edge catching for the first years, but lively enough for park, riding switch and freestyle all over the mountain. You do not outgrow it quickly.
The GNU GWO is one of the best examples of Mervin's philosophy of delivering real snowboard technology at a reasonable price.
It is the more accessible entry to the feel of the Skate Banana: a BTX / hybrid Banana profile, rocker between the feet, camber zones and Magne-Traction.
The GWO is great for someone just starting out, because it is easy, forgiving and not intimidating. But it is not a learner board that has to be replaced in a year or two. It can move on to park, riding switch, jumps and all-mountain riding as the rider develops.
This is the last unit of a discontinued model, and that is exactly why it is even more interesting as one of the last affordable representatives of the classic GNU / Banana philosophy.
Key specs: directional twin; BTX / hybrid Banana; about 0.75" setback; Magne-Traction; freestyle / all-mountain; forgiving character; a beginner board you do not outgrow quickly.

| Size | Contact length | Waist | Sidecut radius | Stance (min-max / setback) | Flex (1–10) | Rider weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 147 cm | 109 cm | 24.2 cm | 8 m | 43.2-55.9 / 0 cm | 4 | from 35 kg |
| 153 cm | 114.5 cm | 24.8 cm | 8.2 m | 51.5-63.5 / 0 cm | 4.5 | from 45 kg |
The size is not chosen by length alone. Weight, surface area, waist, profile and effective edge length together tell how a board will work. The table shows the lower weight limit that Mervin gives for each size. A shorter board turns faster and is more playful; a longer one brings more stability and float. The waist should match the boot: at about 24-25 cm the boots are usually up to size 42-43 (EU), at 25-26 cm up to 44-45, and the W versions are for a bigger foot, so that toes and heel do not drag when carving.
