The Cygnus Big Mike is one of Mervin's peaks - an ultra high-end collector's board, made as a demonstration of engineering capability.
This is one of the boards we link directly to Mike Olson and his decades of experience as a designer, engineer and snowboarder.
The construction is extremely light, with a visible carbon X under the clear topsheet that carries energy from the zones under the toes and heels to the nose and tail.
The reinforced C2 gives float in deep snow and strong control on hard snow. The long nose helps in deep snow, and the carbon and magnesium reinforcements make the board springy and very lively.
This is one of those snowboards that can be compared to exotic cars - not because everyone needs one, but because people who know understand what they are looking at.
Technical highlights: Techno Pop construction; reinforced C2; unidirectional carbon + 30° Carbon Mega X; magnesium bands; wood core 30% Aspen / 25% Paulownia / 45% recycled PET; Knife Cut sintered base; sizes around 154/157/161; flex 6-7.

| Size | Contact length | Waist | Sidecut radius | Stance (min-max / setback) | Flex (1–10) | Rider weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 154 cm | 110 cm | 25.7 cm | 7 m | 51-63.5 / 2.5 cm | 6 | from 54 kg |
| 157 cm | 113 cm | 26.1 cm | 7 m | 51-63.5 / 2.5 cm | 6.5 | from 59 kg |
Size is not chosen by length alone. Weight, surface area, waist width, profile and the length of edge that actually works - the effective edge - together determine how a board rides. The table shows the lower weight limit that Mervin gives for each size. A shorter board turns faster and is more playful, a longer one gives more stability and float. The waist should match your boot: at around 24-25 cm, boots are usually up to size 42-43, at 25-26 cm up to size 44-45, and the W versions are for a bigger foot, so that toes and heel do not catch the snow when carving.
